Perplexity continues to focus on research grounded in current web information, with answers that include citations to their sources. Its current plans provide access to different levels of Pro Search, advanced AI models, Projects, file uploads and analysis, and image and video generation.

Perplexity has expanded well beyond its original search-oriented role. Its newer Computer capability can carry out multi-step work involving research, coding, documents, connected services, and other tools. Personal Computer is now available on Windows, extending these capabilities to local files and desktop workflows.

Perplexity has also introduced Model Council, which can use several AI models on the same question and synthesize their responses. Current model choices can include models from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, xAI, and other providers, depending on the plan and feature being used.

What this means:

Perplexity is no longer simply an alternative to a conventional search engine. It has become a research-oriented AI platform that can search, analyze, work with files, use multiple AI models, and carry out longer tasks.

For someone who values current information and wants answers that point back to sources, Perplexity may be worth considering alongside the more general-purpose assistants.
