Meet the Author

I'm Richard L. Becker—Dick to my friends—and I'm glad you're here.

I've been fortunate to have a long and interesting life, filled with family, friends, work, church, music, traveling, and more than a few surprises along the way.

I grew up in a different technological age. I've watched computers move from something found in specialized workplaces to something that sits in nearly every pocket. I've seen dramatic changes in American life, technology, politics, entertainment, and the way we communicate with one another.

Now, as a retiree, I've become fascinated by another major change: artificial intelligence.

I wrote Understanding AI because I believe AI is going to become part of everyday life for people of all ages. You don't have to be a computer scientist to benefit from it. You do need to know enough to ask good questions, recognize a questionable answer, and keep your own judgment in the driver's seat.

That's what this book is about.

This website is an extension of the book—a place where I can continue the conversation, share new developments, and give readers resources that can change as AI changes.
