ChatGPT
What to check: Current plans, models, projects, tools, memory, connections, voice, research, and other capabilities.
Current information:
August 2026 update:
ChatGPT has moved into the GPT-5.6 generation. GPT-5.6 Luna is becoming the default model for Free and Go users, while eligible paid plans have access to GPT-5.6 Sol with different reasoning options. Free and Go users also have access to a new Think option for harder questions.
ChatGPT has continued adding capabilities beyond ordinary conversation. Recent updates include interactive quizzes, expanded project-memory controls, file uploads and Projects in Voice, and restaurant-reservation assistance.
OpenAI has also continued changing how ChatGPT handles models, plans, tools, and usage limits. These details can change as new capabilities are introduced.
What this means:
ChatGPT now covers a much broader range of work than the version described in many earlier comparisons. The differences between plans can matter when deciding whether a paid subscription is worthwhile.
If you are considering ChatGPT, check the current plans and capabilities directly before deciding which plan—or whether ChatGPT—is right for you.
