PART II — Meeting the Assistants
Chapter 9
Gemini: My Next Stop
Why I Tried Another Assistant
After becoming comfortable with ChatGPT, I wasn't looking for a replacement.
I was curious.
Would another AI assistant approach the same questions differently? Would it fit naturally into the technology I already used?
Gemini was the natural next step for me because Gmail, Google Drive, Google Docs, and my Android devices were already part of my routine.
I wanted to see whether working inside an ecosystem I already knew would change the experience.
What I Discovered
Different AI assistants can organize information differently, emphasize different ideas, and explain things in their own styles.
That led me to a question that has become important throughout this book:
Which AI is the best fit for what I'm trying to accomplish?
Comparing answers from more than one assistant can sometimes give you a better perspective than relying on one response.
You aren't necessarily looking for a winner.
You may simply be looking for another way to see the question.
When the Ecosystem Matters
One reason Gemini became useful to me was convenience.
If I'm already using a phone, tablet, or Google service, having an AI assistant available in that environment can make the interaction feel natural rather than like another application I have to manage.
That illustrates a larger point.
An AI assistant can become more useful when it fits the way you already work.
Where does your information live?
What devices do you use?
What services are already part of your day?
Those questions can matter when deciding which AI to try.
Another Assistant Can Give You Another Perspective
Suppose you ask one AI an important question and receive an answer that seems reasonable.
You could ask another assistant the same question.
The answers might be almost identical.
Or one might emphasize something the other overlooked.
That doesn't automatically make one answer better.
It gives you another perspective.
That can be useful when the question matters enough to deserve another look.
You don't need another AI because it has a different logo. You may want another perspective.
What the Book Explores
why I tried Gemini after ChatGPT;
what I learned by comparing assistants;
why the ecosystem surrounding an AI can matter;
how to decide whether another assistant is worth trying.
Try It Yourself
If you already use Google's services or an Android device, try Gemini with something you are actually doing.
Don't make it a contest.
Pay attention to how naturally it fits into your existing routine.
Then ask yourself:
Would I use this again?
That simple question may tell you more than a long list of features.
Why Read the Book?
Chapter 9 takes the idea from Chapter 8 and makes it personal.
Understanding AI doesn't simply list AI assistants. It shows what can be learned by actually trying them.
My experience with Gemini is one example.
The larger lesson is that your choice of AI can depend on the work you want to do, the information you already use, and the way you prefer to work.
You don't have to choose one assistant forever.
Try one. Learn what works. Then let your experience tell you what to explore next.
