B — Current Connection Information
AI assistants can become much more useful when they can work with information and services you already use.
The book explains the questions to ask before giving an AI assistant access to your information. This page provides current information about the connections available from major AI assistants.
Connections change frequently. New services may be added, existing connections may gain new capabilities, and availability may depend on the assistant, plan, device, location, or account type.
This page focuses on what can be connected and what the connection can do. It does not replace the privacy and access guidance in Appendix B.

Current Connection Snapshot
The major AI assistants are taking different approaches to connecting with outside services.
ChatGPT and Claude are expanding connections into supported actions. Gemini is extending connections across Google services and other applications. Microsoft Copilot has a particularly broad connection ecosystem through Microsoft 365. Perplexity is bringing connected personal and organizational information into its search and research experience.
The sections below provide the current picture for each assistant.
ChatGPT
ChatGPT's current Apps system lets users connect supported outside services and use them from within ChatGPT. Depending on the app, connections can support searching and retrieving information, with some apps able to take actions such as creating or updating information. Availability and permissions vary by app and account configuration.
Current direction: Connections are becoming more action-oriented, rather than being limited to finding information.
Claude
Claude currently supports connectors that can access connected apps and services, retrieve information, and take supported actions. Claude inherits the user's permissions from the connected service. Google Workspace connectors include Gmail, Google Calendar, and Google Drive; Claude also has a Microsoft 365 connector covering services such as Outlook, SharePoint, OneDrive, and Teams.
Current direction: Claude's connector ecosystem has expanded beyond simple document retrieval into connected-service actions.
Gemini
Gemini's Connected Apps can link Gemini with Google services and other supported applications. Google's current documentation shows that availability and capabilities can vary by account, location, device, and service. Gemini is also moving toward using connected information as part of more automated workflows.
Current direction: Connections are becoming part of Gemini's broader personal-assistance and workflow capabilities.
Microsoft Copilot
Microsoft Copilot can connect with consumer services including OneDrive, Outlook.com, Google Drive, Gmail, Calendar, and Contacts. with a broad enterprise connector ecosystem covering services such as Salesforce, ServiceNow, Box, Confluence, and Google services.
Current direction: Copilot has a particularly broad distinction between consumer connections and the much larger enterprise connector ecosystem.
Perplexity
Perplexity currently offers connectors that can bring information from personal files and connected applications into its search and research experience. Google Drive is among the supported file-app connections, and Perplexity's broader enterprise connector system can search connected company information alongside web sources.
Current direction: Perplexity is extending its search model from the open web into connected personal and organizational information.
